Say NO to NUS

The National Union of Students does not serve students.  Nor, for that matter, does it serve freedom.  It serves only those that use it to further their own political careers and pet projects.  It supports boycotts of companies that have the audacity to produce products that students actually want to buy.  It spends most of its time making fatuous and facile statements on foreign policy, which does not directly affect students, let alone reflect their actual opinions or interests.

Most of all, it’s wed to a left-wing agenda that suffocates all debate of substance - on the front of tuition fees, of employment regulation, and so on.  Benjamin Franklin said, “Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding on what to eat for dinner.”  Even by that lowest of measures, the NUS is no democracy, because there’s rarely ever a sheep at the table, but there are plenty of wolves.  The sheep are the students that are given little choice or say in the matter, and whose fates are decided by union hacks.

We want to hold the NUS to account.  Anywhere that the NUS pursues its own private projects instead of representing the interests of the student, we will protest.  Anywhere that the NUS stifles discourse, dissent, and individualism, we will protest.  Anywhere that the NUS acts to discriminate against non-leftist groups, we will protest.  And until the NUS understands this, we will happily support any referendum movement to disaffiliate a students’ union from the NUS.

To let us know about any complaints about the NUS, or any students’ union guilty of the same crimes against its members, email us and let us know, so we can do something about it.
